Yoga Tips
1. Asana should be done with an empty stomach. If you have a full meal, wait around 4 hours before starting the practice. And after you finish practice, drink plenty of water and wait half an hour before you take food, and best if you eat light.
2. It is advisable to shower both before and after yoga. Best use warm water before yoga and first warm then cold water after yoga.
3. Best time to practise is either early in the morning or in the evening. In the morning, choose Yang style yoga to wake up the mind and raise alertness. In the evening, choose the more soothing and relaxing Yin style yoga to remove the fatigue and strain of the day.
4. Always breathe through the nostrils and not through the mouth.
5. Practice with open eyes when you are not familiar with the posture and watch the demonstration of your instructor. After you have perfected in the asana, you can close your eyes while holding the pose, this facilitates the feel of yoga and also helps you focus the mind.
6. Those who suffer from dizziness or high blood pressure, women during menstruation, victims of pus in the ears or displacement of retina should not attempt inverted poses.
7. During the practice of yoga, if you encounter stretching pain, you can exhale and try to cope with the pain. But if it is a burning pain, tearing pain, or the pain is very intense, you could be injured and you should stop the pose immediately.
8. It’s not advisable to practise yoga during the first three months of pregnancy. Wait until your doctor certify that your baby is stably carried before you practise. Practise till the eighth month of pregnancy and you should stop. You can resume yoga three months after delivery (if delivery is by casearian section, may need to wait 6 months before you resume practice).
